Superior Galleries Announces Upcoming Santa Clara Elite Auction

Beverly Hills, California - (Business Wire) - October 27, 2005 - Superior Galleries, Inc. ("Superior") (OTC Bulletin Board: SPGR) announced today that its upcoming Santa Clara Elite Auction will take place on November 17 and 18, 2005. Superior is the official auctioneer of the Santa Clara Coin and Collectibles Show that is held twice yearly in the spring and fall.

Paul Song, Vice President of Auctions, commented "We are excited about this boutique size 1,000 lot auction as it is primarily composed of small private collections that are completely fresh to the market. Adding excitement to these fresh offerings is that fact that many of the best lots will be sold absolutely without reserves." Song further commented that "One of the true stars in our auction will be a 1797 $2.50 Capped Bust Stars on obverse NGC MS64 (lot 484). Aside from being a classic design type and classic rarity, this is a stunning NGC Census population 1 coin with only one other coin graded in mint state by NGC. In fact this coin is rarer than either the 1796 star or no star variety $2.50 Capped Bust, and this coin is estimated to bring upwards of $450,000 to $500,000 from the fortunate high bidder. An equally stunningly rare coin is the 1918-S Liberty Standing 25C. 8 over 7. PCGS MS66 (lot 747). This coin is also among the finest known and is a notoriously difficult issue to obtain in higher grade. This coin may bring in excess of $200,000. Another coin which has been off the market for some time is a Gem specimen of a 1915-S Panama-Pacific Gold $50 Octagonal in an older NGC holder as MS65, which is anticipated to realize in excess of $100,000."

Other rarities in this auction include:

  • Lot 506: A 1797 $10 Capped Bust Large Eagle NGC MS62
  • Lot 471: An 1880 Pattern Goloid Metric $1 Aluminum J1656 PCGS PR67
  • Lot 479: An 1855-D $1 Gold Indian NGC AU58
  • Lot 539: A 1907 $20 St. Gaudens High Relief Wire PCGS MS64
  • Lot 496: An 1810 $5 Large Date Large 5 NGC MS64
  • Lot 838: A 1798 Draped Bust Dollar. Small eagle 13 stars PCGS XF45
  • Lot 507: An 1801 $10 Capped Bust NGC AU55
  • Lot 844: An 1856 Liberty Seated Dollar PCGS PR64
  • Lot 564: A 1915-S Panama-Pacific Gold $2.50 PCGS MS-67
Session I on November 17th will offer some stunning Morgan Dollars, both toned and DMPL varieties, including The Property of a Gentleman, a special collection of Morgan Dollars, of which the majority are in first generation PCGS holders. A highlight from this collection are over 60 BU examples of the very scarce 1887/6 Morgan Dollars, which range in grade from MS60 to MS63. Most of these coins have not been on the market in over a decade.

As the market leader in selling toned and rainbow coins, Superior Galleries is pleased to be offering part III of the Battle Creek Collection of Rainbow Morgan Silver Dollars, an advanced small selection of several hundred of the finest star-designated rainbow and toned silver dollars ever to come to the marketplace. Originating from 9 mint-sealed bags, this group of Silver Dollars had not seen the light of day in over a century, until our July ANA 05 auction. Part II was offered in our September 2005 Beverly Hills Elite Auction to great acclaim and superlative results. Superior Galleries is very excited to be able to offer part III of this collection to the collecting public.

For more information on this auction or on how to consign to one of our future Elite Auctions, please contact Paul Song at 800-545-1001 or consign@sgbh.com. Our deadline for our January 2, 2006 Orlando Elite Auction to be held before the FUN convention will be November 11th.
