Superior Galleries of Beverly Hills Posts Record Convention Results
Beverly Hills, California - (Business Wire) - August 10, 2005 - Superior Galleries, Inc. ("Superior") (OTC Bulletin Board: SPGR) Superior Galleries of Beverly Hills posted record sales results at the recently concluded American Numismatic Association "Worlds Fair of Money" Summer Convention. Total sales at the convention exceeded $3.4 million. Superior CEO Silvano DiGenova commented: "I am highly impressed with the performance of our sales team. Our Vice President of Numismatics, Paul Simonetti, sold a 7-figure amount of coins during the show, a record for him personally, and an all-time record for any single Superior Galleries staff member at a convention. The ANA convention was especially active for us, with a strong and steady stream of both buyers and sellers at our bourse table for virtually the entire show. I couldn't be more pleased with our results or the performance of our team."
Highlights among the many coins sold by Superior at the ANA convention include two 1880 Flowing Hair $4 "Stellas", one graded Proof 66 Cameo and one graded Proof 65, that together were sold for nearly $1 million: These two coins represent almost 10% of the total mintage for this ultra rarity; a 1907 Rolled Edge $10 Indian graded Mint State 65 sold for nearly $200,000; and two 1915-S Panama-Pacific $50 Commemorative Gold Coins sold for nearly $150,000. Additionally, Superior Galleries is proud to have made a significant purchase of a spectacular classic rarity; 1927-D $20 St. Gaudens graded Mint State 63, for an undisclosed sum in excess of $1 million. Said Executive Vice President Larry Abbott "The sales at the show were certainly great, but the benefits of our success at the show extend well beyond the convention week. We brought back many outstanding coins to fill wants lists for clients in the coming weeks, and we also accepted a number of impressive consignments for our upcoming September pre-Long Beach Elite auction. It was gratifying to see our sales and auction staff working together with our dealer and collector clients to achieve such stellar results."
Many Superior Galleries of Beverly Hills staff members (like other dealers who participate in the nation coin show circuit) moved directly from the Santa Clara convention to the ANA convention in San Francisco, with only one day of rest in between. Said Vice President of Auctions Paul Song "This is always the hardest two weeks of the year for our staff, with many spending 11 or 12 straight days on the road. The results were well worth the efforts though, and we are all looking forward to Long Beach in September."
