Superior Galleries Announces Beverly Hills Elite Auction Results

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 2, 2005--Superior Galleries, Inc. (OTCBB:SPGR - News) announced today that the prices realized from its Beverly Hills Elite rare coin auction, held May 29th-31st, 2005, exceeded $5.2 million inclusive of the buyer's premium. The sale included an impressive array of early American copper, silver and gold coins, many of which had been off the market for over seventy-five years, and these included some of the following esteemed collections:

The first section of the auction kicked off with a monumental offering of over 1,000 lots of copper coins from Half Cents onward, held in association McCawley-Grellman. Some of the esteemed collections offered in this section included The Alto III Collection of Half Cents and Large Cents; the John Pijewski Collection of Early Date Cents; and the Allan Kollar Collection of Half Cents and Large Cents.

The Alto Collection III comprised a fabulous array of U.S. gold, silver and copper coinage. Many of the coins in this fabulous collection descend from important sales dating from the 1920's through the early 1960's, including those of B. Max Mehl, J.C. Morgenthau, Barney Bluestone, John Zug and Wayte Raymond.

Also, of note were Early Gold Coins from the Ferragamo Collection which were also eagerly sought after. Paul Song, Vice President of Auctions, was quoted as follows:

"We are very pleased with our May 29-21st Elite Auction results, especially in light of how the highest quality, freshest lots brought well in excess of what we anticipated. Many lots brought multiples of the pre-sale estimates, and the auction room was active with live, phone and internet bidding via eBay Live throughout the 5 sessions. This reinforces again the strength of the United States coin market, especially when you have high quality material, coupled with the finest presentation to the marketplace." Among the highlights of the auction were:
